Our firm was born from a hunch my paternal Grandparents Mario e Irma had in 1923, when they decided to change their destinies, by leaving their dependent employment to enter the captivating world of self-employment.
They founded Manifattura Mario Colombo, which produced gaiters and men’s hats, so fashionable in those days and a distinctive specialty of Monza’s clothing industry.
That is how more than 90 years ago our family factory made its debut; my Grandfather had initially named it after the wooden wedge used to cut less compact felt cones used for gaiter making.
The name COLMAR came about when Grandpa Mario tossed around with his friends some ideas for the brand, inscribing random words on a cigarette pack. In the end, the first three letters of his last and first name were the winner.
